About Biosan

History

Biosan Laboratories is an environmental microbiology laboratory that was founded by Dr. Harold Rossmoore in 1973. Our initial microbiology lab was in Ferndale, MI where we remained until 1994. Since we knew many of our lab customers would benefit from the ability to perform microbiology testing on-site, Biosan developed the following bacteria and fungi test kits: the Sani-Check AB for detecting bacteria, the Sani-Check YM for detecting fungi, the Sani-Check SRB kit for detecting anaerobic sulfate reducing bacteria.

Microbiological Test Kit Manufacturing Facility

In response to our clients’ needs, we developed an agar based detection method known as a dipslide for microbiological testing. In 1994, we moved to a 6400 square foot building in Warren, Michigan and added a 3600 square foot manufacturing area in order to expand our manufacturing capacity. Today our production department is dedicated to making high quality agar dipslides for the microbial testing of a variety of industrial fluids.

Microbiology Testing Laboratory

Our highly experienced microbiologists provide antimicrobial testing services for a variety of industries including textiles, plastics, paints, inks, metalworking fluid, and water treatment (legionella testing) using ASTM, AATCC, JIS and ISO standard microbial methodologies. They also provide consulting in antimicrobial testing protocol design for those clients that required customized testing.

Jason Desai

Jason has served as Biosan's President since 2009. His primary responsibilities include supervision of all product manufacturing, laboratory testing and marketing/sales. Prior to joining Biosan, he was a partner with Kirkland & Ellis LLP, an international law firm, where he specialized in mergers and acquisitions and securities offerings. Jason has an undergraduate degree from Stanford University and a law degree from Harvard Law School.

Katalin Rossmoore

Dr. Rossmoore currently serves as Biosan's Chief Science Officer, a position she has held since 2009. Dr. Rossmoore joined Biosan in 2000 and has occupied several positions at the company, including Manager of Biosan's microbiology laboratory. Dr. Rossmoore completed her Master's degree and Ph.D. in fermentation and environmental microbiology at Eotvos Lorand Science University in Budapest, Hungary. In addition to multiple peer-reviewed publications, her professional background includes over 25 years' experience in biocide applications research, biocide efficacy studies in industrial fluids, paints, metalworking fluids and industrial water systems. Dr. Rossmoore also has extensive experience with incorporated antimicrobial efficacy tests in textile, plastic, metal and other materials. She has taught environmental microbiology and microbial ecology at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

Erica Rossmoore joined Biosan in 2006 and serves as Biosan's Microbiology Supervisor. Erica has an undergraduate degree in biology from Central Michigan University.

David Mashinter

David joined Biosan in 2010 and currently serves as Microbiologist/QA Manager in the Microbiology Laboratory. Prior to joining Biosan, David was an Applications Chemist with Agilent Technologies, a scientific instrument manufacturer. David has an undergraduate degree in microbiology from Michigan State University.

Gary serves as Biosan's Production and Shipping Manager. He has been with Biosan for over twenty-two years and has experience in all facets of Biosan Sani-Check® product development, manufacturing and distribution. Gary also supervises maintenance of our facility in Warren, Michigan

Lesley Thomas

Lesley serves as Biosan's Sales and Marketing Manager, a position she had held since 1998. Lesley is the primary business contact (lesley@biosan.com) for all laboratory and Sani-Check® product customers and provides technical support to both customer groups. Prior to joining Biosan, Lesley was a Senior Microbiologist for DiverseyLever, a specialty chemical manufacturer. Lesley has an undergraduate degree in microbiology from the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Randy serves as Biosan's Controller, a position he has held for over 4 years. Prior to joining Biosan, Randy was Controller of Toray Resin Company, an international resins company. Randy has an undergraduate degree from Ferris State University in accounting and a Masters from Walsh Business College.

Nancy has served as Biosan's Administration Assistant and Customer Service Representative for the previous four years. Nancy's primary responsibilities include working as a customer service liaison for all laboratory testing customers. She is also an important member of Biosan's order processing and product distribution teams.
